"I have a lot of shapes, but not a lot of time, so we have to start immediately."
Julio Torres, master of shenanigans and lover of shapes, makes his HBO debut with the upcoming comedy special My Favorite Shapes by Julio Torres. Executive produced by Fred Armisen and Lorne Michaels, the hour-long ode to geometry centers around Torres as he describes various shapes with side-splitting detail.
Admittedly, we have yet to see this routine in its final form — but are willing to vouch for it thanks to seeing an early version performed at the Upright Citizens Brigade in 2017. Mind-bogglingly funny, Torres knows how to make the most of his seemingly mundane premise, weaving elaborate backstories for his cursed props. It's a tale of triumph, a story of woe, and a look at what makes us human.
But also, it's just about shapes. Sure to result in a whole bunch of memes, My Favorite Shapes by Julio Torres is will certainly inspire your next wave of utter nonsense.
My Favorite Shapes by Julio Torrespremieres 8/10 on HBO.
