In the process, Cardi has made history becoming the first solo song from a female rapper to hit the top since 1998's Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing).”

"Bodak Yellow" is the first charting single from Cardi, born Belcalis Almanzar, and according to Billboardis only the fifth female rapper to top the chart.

Cardi spoke about the big win at an event directly following the milestone.

"Thank you everybody. I'm very happy; I'm very honored, especially 'cause my family's here," she proclaimed.

"At first, I kept coming to the label like, "Why is my shit not playing on the radio? I do not understand what's going on. And then it's just like, 'you gotta keep working hard to get that big record,'" she continued. "I'ma give you a record."
