Before he was bastardized along with everything else in Spider-Man 3,Watch Hana ni Keda Mono: Second Season Online Venom was a pretty cool Marvel character – and Tom Hardy wants to bring that guy back with his new Venom film. The first image of Hardy in character as Eddie Brock is quiet and understated – but like Eddie himself, there's something sharp beneath the surface.
SEE ALSO: Joe Manganiello's Deathstroke is here to singlehandedly revive the DCEUThe photo shows Hardy as Eddie Brock, pre-Venom suit, working as a reporter. As you zoom in, EW notes, you can see questions like “So how exactly does the Life Foundation go about testing its pharmaceuticals?” and “What about the allegations your empire is built on?” Whether or not you've read the comics, you can probably intuit that the answers to those questions won't be good.
In the original Marvel comics, Venom is an amorphous symbiote that takes the form of a super suit to feed on human hosts. Spider-Man finds the suit, wears it for a while because it enhances his abilities (and looks hella fresh), then disposes of it when he realizes its parasitic nature. It ends up with Brock, who becomes the Spider-Man villain Venom.
Hardy's Venom has no plans to interact with Spider-Man (it didn't go so well last time), but the film also stars Riz Ahmed and Michelle Williams. Venomwill be in theaters Oct. 5.
