In 2016 we had Paul Feig's movie, and now we have yet another one in the pipeline. This time it'll be a sequel to the original franchise, directed by Ivan Reitman's son, Jason.
EW broke the news late on Tuesday, and Reitman confirmed it in a tweet.

“I’ve always thought of myself as the first Ghostbustersfan, when I was a 6-year-old visiting the set," Reitman told EW. "I wanted to make a movie for all the other fans.
"This is the next chapter in the original franchise. It is not a reboot. What happened in the ‘80s happened in the ‘80s, and this is set in the present day.”
Reitman and EWfollowed up Tuesday's surprise reveal on Wednesday with an entire teaser trailer. There's nothing revealing about the cast or story here, but... let's just say it does the job it sets out to do.
In an interview tied to the teaser, Reitman also offered more specific confirmation about the course of the coming sequel, and its lack of connection to Paul Feig's 2016 take on Ghostbustersstarring Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon.
"I have so much respect for what Paul created with those brilliant actresses, and would love to see more stories from them. However, this new movie will follow the trajectory of the original film," Reitman said.
That's as far as he went with the upcoming sequel's specifics, however. This third chapter in the Ghostbusters series should hit theaters sometime in the summer of 2020.
