Netflix isn't known for being quick to cancel or Taboo Sex: Daughter in law, Sister in law, Mother in law (2025)even do much quality control with its glut of original content.
But the streaming service confirmed that the company would not beordering additional episodesof The Break with Michelle Wolf. The move comes as a bit of an unpleasant surprise, considering the cancellation is happening a mere four months after the variety show debuted on May 27.
Reportedly The Joel McHale Show is being cancelled, too, after only a 19-episode run that started back in February. The Break only aired 10 episodes total.
The reasoning behind the premature cancellation of Wolf's show remains unclear.
SEE ALSO: Emmys 2018: The full list of nominationsNetflix does not make viewership numbers public, but The Breakhad been generating a decent amount of media buzz for its equally silly and provocative segments on the week's biggest topics. It was especially attention-grabbing for arriving on the streaming site a month after Wolf's controversial speech at the White House Correspondents Dinner. (Remember the Sarah Huckabee Sanders smoky eye burn? That was Wolf.)
Talk shows remain one of few genres that the streaming mogul cannot seem to figure out. While the Emmys saw Netflix dominating in everything from documentaries to comedies, it has yet to generate a long-lasting hit in the variety sketch or talk show categories. Last year, Chelsea Handler failed to return for a third season of her own Netflix variety show.
But it appears the company is still dedicated to trying.
In the fall it will premiere three new originals in the category, including Norm Macdonald has a Show, Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj, and the Jimmy Carr-led panel show The Fix. We probably also will be stuck with more episodes of Jerry Seinfeld's Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.
So if you're looking for even more dudes talking at you from a desk, be sure to tune into Netflix.
But if you're looking for exceedingly rare women-led talk shows, you'll have to tune into Hulu for the Emmy-nominated I Love You America with Sarah Silvermanor to TBS for the Emmy award-winning Full Frontal with Samantha Bee.
