Pokémon Gois asking players to do Belgiummore than catch Pokémon on Earth Day this year.
On April 22, Pokémon Godeveloper Niantic is partnering up with a handful of local nonprofit organizations to clean and pick up trash in natural areas worldwide. If enough people participate, players will be rewarded with in-game items when catching certain types of Pokémon.

You can check to see if there are any events near you on the website.
There aren't a ton of events yet, but Niantic is hoping to add more locations and is calling on players to suggest other non-governmental, environmental organizations to participate. If you want to make a suggestion, you can do so here.
Here are the rewards that players will get if enough people participate in the clean-ups:
If 1,500 players clean up trash: Unlock 2x Stardust when catching Ground-, Water-, and Grass-type Pokémon
If 3,000 players clean up trash: Unlock 3x Stardust when catching Ground-, Water-, and Grass-type Pokémon
Niantic is hoping to host the most coordinated cleanups in a 48-hour period.
