The English porn moviessweet and sometimes sad faces of dogs waiting to be adopted is just one of those things that tug at your heart strings. And these pup photos are no exception.
Over the last few years, fashion and portrait photographer Richard Phibbs has been photographing furry subjects at the Humane Society of New York as part of the shelter’s work to find the dogs “forever homes.” The portraits of the adorable pups are featured in the new book Rescue Me. The photos are accompanied with each dog’s story of abandonment through rescue told by writer and activist Richard Jonas. Royalties from the sale of Rescue Mebenefit the Humane Society of New York. “My portraits of homeless animals are not meant to make people feel sad. The goal is to find every animal a home," said Phibbs.
After looking at these quirky faces, see if you can resist running to your nearest humane society.
